BANANA WHIP ICE-CREAM

3 or 4 frozen bananas (peel and freeze overnight in a sealed container)

Freeze 1 to 2 bananas per person.

Put the frozen bananas through the Oscar (or similar masticating juicer) using the blank blade.

Or slice the bananas and freeze overnight and then place frozen sliced bananas in a food processer after you’ve thawed them for a few minutes. It can take a while to process. Keep processing until the mix turns white!

Serve with a delicious fruit salad or drizzle choc sauce/ agave syrup/ maple syrup over the banana whip. Chopped nuts, goji berries or cinnamon can be sprinkled over it. Use your imagination!

Delicious Almond Milk

Recipe for almond milk (dairy-free and delicious):

100g raw almonds(organic if you can) soaked in a cup of water overnight (or for a couple of hours)

blend with 1 litre of filtered water

add a dash of cinnamon (about 1/4 teaspoon or more if you like)

add a tablespoon of honey or agave nectar(suitable for diabetics)

add 1/4 teaspoon of  natural vanilla extract or teaspoon of vanilla powder

add a tablespoon coconut oil (optional)

blend it all again!

strain the mixture through a nut milk bag or a clean stocking that you’re not going to wear again :) to get all the bits out

now you have a perfect, delicious alternative to milk to use on your cereal and in your tea but you’ll probably just drink it as is!

By the way, almonds are a very healthy source of protein, calcium, B vitamins and good-for-you fats.

Variations:

Add a few tablespoons of raw chocolate powder(available at most health stores) for a scrumptious, dairy-free chocolate milk.

or

Add a dash of nutmeg for a different taste sensation!

Almond milk will keep for a couple days in the fridge (if you can leave it for that long!)

Refreshing detox juice

Here’s a great revitalising, refreshing and cleansing juice to have in the morning if you want a fresh start or in the afternoon as a pick-me-up!

serves 2

3-4 apples (pref green)

1 large grapefruit (peeled)

1 lemon (peeled)

1 beetroot (optional)

4/5 large dark green leaves (spinach or swiss chard work well but any green salad leaves will do)

Juice and give it all a good mix and enjoy!

The apples are great for the liver and bowels and the grapefruit is good for cleansing your joints and boosting the immune system! Lemon is cleansing and alkalising and also great for stimulating bile production. The greens are nourishing, packed with chlorophyll which helps revitalise the blood and also alkalising. Beetroot is a great detoxifier for the blood and the bowels!
